Head Coach Steve Prohm and several of his players struck an eager tone during Racer Media Day, just a few days before they begin the 2013-14 season. The Murray State men's basketball team was in the spotlight Wednesday at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky.

"It's great to get another basketball season started and we're looking forward to the opportunity that this season presents us," said head coach Steve Prohm, who is 52-12 in his first two seasons guiding the Racers. "Our biggest goal for this team is to see where we're at now on Oct. 30th and where we can be in February."

Like all college basketball teams, the Racers have worked on their craft throughout the summer, into the fall, and what comes now is real games. Everyone is looking forward to that.

"We've come back Monday and Tuesday with a different focus as they start to understand," Prohm said. "That's the good thing about scrimmages, it's good for the coaches to know how much we still have to teach these guys."

The Racers enter the season with Dexter Fields as their lone senior and five players on the current roster that will be wearing a Murray State uniform for the first time. Prohm's club is young, but that only presents opportunity for growth.

"I read something that made a lot of sense," Prohm stated. "Do you have 'don't know' guys or 'don't care guys'? If you have 'don't care' guys you're in trouble, but we've got a lot of guys that don't know. But that's a good thing. They're here before practice, they're sticking around after practice wanting to learn. The chemistry is good."

The Racers don't have to wait long to see how they're progressing with Saturday marking the opening of the season with an exhibition game. MSU hosts Freed-Hardeman Saturday at the CFSB Center at 7 p.m.

The season opener for MSU s a week from Friday (Nov. 8) when they play the regular season opener at Valparaiso at 7:30 p.m. MSU's home opener (Nov. 12) is against Brescia at 7 p.m.

MSU Basketball season and single-game tickets are currently available at the CFSB Center Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Orders can also be placed by phone at (270) 809-3000 or online at GoRacers.com
