Murray State not paying attention to preseason comments from EKU coach
MURRAY, KY -- Eastern Kentucky head coach Jeff Neubauer is no stranger to making head turning comments. After last season saying that the Colonels were the only team that could beat Belmont, this year at OVC Media Day Neubauer said, "the east is and always will be the best division in the OVC."
So you can only imagine what that says about Murray State in the west.
"Our program speaks for itself," Murray State head coach Steve Prohm said. "Our job is to represent the conference and win our next game."
Their next game just so happens to be against the Colonels, and Prohm believes the Racers have an advantage over EKU.
"Hopefully, we can have a physical presence around the basket," he said. "We can rebound and chase shots around the basket."
Another advantage is that Murray State is beginning to play more as a team.
"Just being able to run our sets with efficiency is great," said Junior forward Jarvis Williams. "We now know what the other team is doing and we are focused and locked in."
As for the players thoughts on Neubauer's comments, they are a little more open than their head coach.
"You always take offense when someone talks down to you," Freshman guard Cameron Payne said. "I feel we feed off of it."
"I am a Murray State guy," said Williams. "He should know what it is all about, especially since the last few years."
And in the last ten meetings, the Racers are 8-2 against EKU.
