Murray State's Berry not ready to play yet

We first heard of Jaamal Berry last month when the former Ohio State running back Jaamal Berry told a website he was transferring to Murray State.  Part of his comments included "I have a great opportunity there. I should be starting for them for the next two years."

When you take those comments, along with the fact he was a four-star recruit out of high school, Murray State fans were nearly giddy waiting for his arrival.

Now that Berry is at Murray State, it appears, at least for the time being, thoughts of him starting are premature.

Berry did not participate Monday is team drills, instead working on conditioning.  He did take a few reps last week in the teams final scrimmage, but coaches say he still has a lot to pick up.

Head coach Chris Hatcher says that Duane Brady is the team's #1 back and he will take the majority of the snaps. Jordan Morrow, a junior who is listed as a wide receiver on the team's roster, is the solid #2 -- according to Hatcher.

But Hatcher hopes Berry can still add the depth to the running back position he's looking for.

"When he gets ready to go, we'll see what he can do," Hatcher Said. "He's a little bit behind on the learning curve.  It's been a little while since he's played, but we hope he turns into something that can give those other two guys a run for their money."

The Racers open September 1st at Florida State.
