SEDALIA, KY-- Just a few miles southeast of Mayfield lies the little town of Sedalia.  It's about a twenty-five minute drive to the rural Graves County town,  from the Murray State University campus.  But for Racers players and cheerleaders on Thursday, it was definitely a trip worth making.

Hundreds of children ages five through twelve packed the gymnasium at Sedalia Elementary, giving Racers guards Isaiah Canaan and Jewuan Long, a very loud welcome.  The school's prinicpal, Robert Braden, says he wanted to get a couple of the Murray State players to the school to talk to children about learning, studying, and working hard.

Braden admits it was just a couple of days ago that the idea was brought up to host players from Murray State, so he wasn't sure it would happen.  Thanks to Sedalia and Graves County alum Heath Howard, who is now a cheerleader at Murray State, the players and some of the cheerleaders decided to make the trip on short notice.

Canaan says he's made visits to elementary schools before, but this was a little different.  Normally, the student athletes don't stray too far away from trips to schools in and around Murray.  Canaan says this was his first ever trip to Sedalia, and he was impressed with how he could travel nearly a half hour from Murray, and still feel right at home with all of the support they were met with when they walked through the doors.
