Racers pay visit to elementary students
MURRAY, KY-- A few Murray State basketball players took some time out on Wednesday morning, to meet and talk with fourth and fifth graders at Southwest Calloway Elementary School. Jewuan Long, Isaiah Canaan, Candace Nevels, and Mariah Robinson spoke to students about achieving their goals, even if they seem unreachable.
During Long's address to the students, he talked about how practice makes perfect, not only on the basketball court, but also in the classroom. Southwest's principal Dennis Fisher says a lot of the students look up to the Racers, so it helps when an extra role model steps in and tells the children the same thing their teachers and parents are.
Murray State also announced to the students that there is an essay contest for the children to enter, and the three finalists will get a chance to watch a Racers game from press row, and write a story about that game.
