Sullivan leads Miners past Beach Bums

Marion, IL - Richard Sullivan struck out a season high nine strike outs and second baseman Cannon Lester hit a go-ahead two run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to help the Miners win 8-4 over the Traverse City Beach Bums.  Sullivan pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed three runs (two earned) off eight hits with two walks.
Sullivan allowed two runs in the top of the first inning as the Beach Bums took a 2-0 lead.  The Miners scored a run in the bottom of the third inning off Beach Bums starter Scott Dunn as Cannon Lester scored on an error Beach Bums center fielder Tayler Wrenn after a base hit by Ryan Curl.  With the Miners within a run 2-1, first baseman Gerardo Avila hit a sacrifice fly off Dunn in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at 2-2.
The Beach Bums added a run in the top of the seventh inning off Miners reliever Dayne Quist as Sean Gusrang hit a RBI groundout with the bases loaded to take a 3-2 lead with the run charged to Sullivan.  Dayne Quist pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief and allowed one hit with one strikeout.  Cannon Lester hit a two run home run off Beach Bums reliever Scott Mueller to give the Miners a 4-3 lead entering the top of the eighth inning.
Southern Illinois scored four more runs to take a 8-3 heading into the top of the ninth inning.  Traverse City added another run in the top of the ninth inning off Miners reliever Bryant George.  George finished the inning and preserved the win for the Miners.
