Unbeaten Ballard Memorial ready for challenges ahead
BARLOW, KY -- Ballard Memorial's 5-0 start to the season may have been a surprise to most, but not to those around the program.
"Are we surprised, the answer is no," Ballard head coach John Elliott said. "Are we happy to be where we are, the answer is yes."
"I think we have worked hard to get to this point," senior quarterback Trevor Langston said. "We just have to keep pushing forward to get more wins."
Some may write them off because of who they have played. So far their opponents have a combined record of 4-18. However, they are not apologizing for their schedule.
"We are a small 2A school," Elliott said. "We have played a 4A and 3A school, a 1A, and two 2A schools so far. They are equal to or bigger than us."
This Friday night the Bombers will face their toughest test against Caldwell County, and the attitude of this years team is much different than it was last year.
"Last year we were scared," senior lineman Shawn Johnson said. "We know Caldwell is ranked in the top 5, and they have weaknesses just like every other team. This game will tell us a lot about ourselves."
And for the first time the Bombers will be ranked heading into the game.
"They can enjoy the record and being ranked right now," Elliott said. "It is something that they have never had before."
