Miners win playoff opener 1-0.

Traverse City, MI - Southern Illinois Miners starting pitcher David Harden pitched eight scoreless innings as the Miners defeated the Traverse City Beach Bums in game one by a score of 1-0.  Harden gave up seven hits, struck out five and did not walk a batter.  Javier Herrera scored the only run of the game with a solo home run off Beach Bums starter Reid Kelly in the top of the fourth inning.  
David Harden and Reid Kelly exchanged scoreless innings through out the course of the evening for both teams.  Javier Herrera led off the top of the fourth inning for Southern Illinois and hit a home run to give the Miners a 1-0 lead off Read Kelly.  Ken Gregory hit a double right after Herrera and moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt, but the Miners failed to score the run with less than two outs.  
Beach Bums out fielder Kyle Colligan was 4 for 4 on the evening, the only Beach Bum with more than two hits off David Harden.  One of those hits came with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, a double to give Traverse City a chance to score.  Brandon Cunniff pitched the ninth inning and struck out Sean Gusrang looking end the game and give Southern Illinois the game one victory 1-0.  
David Harden earned the win while Reid Kelly earned the loss for Traverse City.  Brandon Cunniff earned the save for the Miners.  The Miners and Beach Bums will play at 6:05 pm. on Wednesday evening, looking to improve to a 2-0 series lead.  Daniel Calhoun will be on the mound for the Miners.  Jacob Clem will take the hill for Traverse City.  The Heartland Regional Medical Center Pregame Show on the Miners Radio Network with Mike Ventola will get underway at 5:45 pm.
