CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri quarterback Kyle Snyder will miss the 2012 season due to a knee injury he sustained during Friday's practice.

Snyder, expected to be Southeast's starting quarterback this year, tore the ACL in his right knee on the team's ninth day of preseason camp.

"It's a big blow, but we just have to move on," said Southeast head coach Tony Samuel. "Kyle has a lot of experience and ability and I feel bad for him."

Freshmen Scott Lathrop and Blake Jackson took the majority of the snaps in Southeast's scrimmage Saturday.

"It's unfortunate, but we just have to stick together," said Lathrop.

Lathrop completed 5-of-5 passes for 72 yards and ran for a touchdown, while Jackson completed two passes for 21 yards.

"I feel pretty good out there," commented Lathrop. "The guys around us have confidence in me and I have confidence in myself to manage this offense."

Samuel expects to get a better idea about the quarterback situation in the coming weeks.

"The next couple weeks will give us a better feel for what's going on," he said. "Scott and Blake both did some good things in our first scrimmage."
