UT Martin women draw Notre Dame in NCAA Tournament
MARTIN, TN-- Quietly and patiently, the UT Martin women waited with their fans to see who and where they would be playing in the NCAA tournament. And when the Skyhawks popped up next to Notre Dame, UTM head coach Kevin McMillan admits he was a little surprised.
"There were some teams with lower RPIs than us, and our strength of schedule was really high of those teams," McMillan said. "The committee was talking about, we told you to go out and play people, well we went out and played people, and we ended up with a sixteen. So why do it, you know? Why subject yourself to the Baylor's and Stanford's of the world, if they're not going to look at that and say you know what, this bunch played some folks, let's give them some credit for it."
Junior guard Heather Butler thinks that tough schedule at the beginning of the season, will help prepare the Skyhawks for the Fighting Irish.
"That definitely helps," Butler admitted. "Playing against Britney Griner in the post, and playing against the good perimeter players on Stanford, that definitely gets us ready for the tournament."
The Skyhawks will tip off with Notre Dame at 4:05 on Sunday afternoon, in Iowa City, Iowa.
