Racers, UK paying close attention at Peach Jam
NORTH AUGUSTA, SC-- Ultimately, recruiting comes down to a lot of smoke and mirrors, because you have to listen to the the kids and their inner circle to find out who is recruiting them, since coaches can barely acknowledge they've heard of a kid until he signs his letter of intent. But there are a couple kids at the Nike Peach Jam that Murray State reportedly has interest in, both playing for the E1T1 elite team out of Florida. Steve Prohm has watched them play this week, including 6-4 guard Dimitri Thompson who has shown he can knock down the outside shot.
The other prospect- 6-8 245 pounder big man Chris Perry. Apparently neither of these kids have offers yet from Murray State, but they are a couple names to at least keep an on eye in the coming months.
One of the guys with the most high-profile eyeballs on him this week is the number one power forward prospect in hte country Julius Randle. At 6-8, he's a five star guy with offers from every big program in the country including Kentucky. He was pretty non-commital about his list, but when he was asked specifically about Kentucky, his demeanor improved greatly.
"Kentucky says it all," Randle admitted. "Coach Cal gets the job done. He's a great coach, he's a player's coach, and he's a great person. Kentucky is a great school. You've seen what they've done the last three years and what he's done the last couple years in the draft. That says it all."
His body language may say it all. Randle says he'll sit down at the end of the summer and narrow his list to figure out where he wants to visit. Judging by the ear to ear grin, expect Kentucky to be on the list.
