Countdown to Gridiron Glory: Marshall County Marshals
The last two seasons have been anything but fun for Marshall County and their fans. The Marshals won just four games and suffered through a 14-game losing streak which was snapped with a win at Hopkinsville in the regular season finale last year.
And because of those struggles, Scott Shelton was replaced as head coach by Ron Barnard. For more on Barnard's background, click on the related content link in this story.
Barnard has his work cut of for him. The Marshals don't return a wealth of experience and are trying to learn a new system on top of things.
Barnard has brought a college-style defense from his days at Campbellsville University. He has also simplified the Marshals spread offense, which should help sophomore starting quarterback Chase Clark.
The 2010 schedule doesn't do Barnard any favors either. They'll open the season with games against two teams that played for a state title in Mayfield and Lone Oak. Sandwiched in between those games is a match-up with Indiana powerhouse, Evansville Bosse.
