Trigg County, Caldwell County rivalry means a lot to sisters

Paducah, KY -- At Hancock's Neighborhood Market in Cadiz, Mallory Lawrence can't help but think about the big game on Friday between Caldwell County and Trigg County.

"I originally graduated from Caldwell in 1987," Lawrence said. "I am a Caldwell Countian by birth, and a Trigg Countian by choice."

Meanwhile, at the Hancock's in Princeton, her sister Allison Oliver is doing the same thing.

"Mallory has a son on Trigg's team and I have a son here at Caldwell," Oliver said. "It is a really big game for us."

Not only is the game big, but the winner will be able display the new "139 Bowl" trophy in their store.

"Coach (Coby) Lewis called me and said that they wanted to give us the trophy, since we had stores in both locations," Lawrence said. "I called my sister and she thought it was a great idea."

Of course, bragging rights will be on the line for whomever takes home the trophy.

"We talked trash initially," Oliver said. "We have toned it down this week, because we don't really know what will happen on the field."

But that hasn't stopped them from picking a spot in their stores to display the trophy.

"We have a place inside the front door," Lawrence said. "We want everyone who walks in and out of our store to see it."

"The trophy has been in Trigg County since they made it," Oliver said. "They have had it long enough. It's time to bring it home to Caldwell."
