Massac's Johnson named one of 50 national players of the year by Old Spice Red Zone

WPSD Sports

Massac County's Jarelle Johnson has been selected by Old Spice Red Zone as one of their 50 national high school football players of the year.

As quarterback, Johnson led the Patriots to a SIRR Ohio Division championship and a berth in the IHSA state playoffs during his senior season.

The mission of the Old Spice Red Zone National Player of the Year campaign is to motivate, inspire and recognize varsity high school football players who show outstanding athletic performance, strong leadership, and the will to win in the Red Zone – the area of the football field between the 20-yard line and the goal line.

Johnson was featured along with the other winners this month in an ad in USA Today newspaper.

I'm proud of him regardless of what he does; basketball, football, msu, siu, or shawnee. He is a great kid and a success story for kids that come from the same struggle!

Congrats to Jarelle....does anyone else find it ironic that neither of the local schools (MSU or SIU) signed him today and based on a previous article in the Sun, he wanted to go to MSU....maybe he has too much integrity for their program?
