MCU men earn first ever trip to TranSouth ChampionshipMAYFIELD, Ky. - When the game is on the line, big players step up and make big plays. That's exactly what happened on Saturday evening for the Mid-Continent University men's basketball team. Seniors Matt Fraliex and Chris Ferguson each made clutch shots for the Cougars (12-19) down the stretch, as Mid-Continent held on to take a 76-70 win from Cumberland University (22-9), ending the Bulldogs' season and sending Mid-Continent into the TranSouth Championship game for the first time in school history. The win is the Cougars' fourth straight and sixth in their last seven games. Ferguson and Antonio Davis - a Union County High School product - led the Cougars with 15 points each, with Steve McBorrough (13), Marcus Johnson (12, and Fraliex (10) also reaching double figures offensively. Ferguson also grabbed a team-high nine boards, swatting a pair of Bulldog shot attempts away. Mid-Continent shot 46 percent from the floor (31-67), and 41 percent from long distance in the game (7-17). The win propels the Cougars to their first ever TranSouth Championship game. The team will hit the road on Tuesday night, heading to Pulaski, Tenn. to take on the Martin Methodist RedHawks (26-6) for the right to represent the TranSouth at the 75th Annual NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Championship the following week. The game can be heard live over the internet through the link for men's basketball at http://www.midcontinentcougars.com/f/Live_Game_Audio.php. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m., with the pregame show set to begin at 6:45. COURTESY: MCU Athletics Follow WPSD Sports on Twitter by clicking here. Follow WPSD Sports on Facebook by clicking here. |
