MCU men lose final TSAC game to CumberlandMAYFIELD, Ky. – Cumberland University (17-11, 11-5 TSAC) clinched fourth place in the TranSouth Athletics Conference standings with a 58-52 come-from-behind victory over Mid-Continent University (11-19, 4-12 TSAC) Saturday, Feb. 26, in the Mayfield High School Sports Arena. MCU led 38-32 with 11:38 left in the game, but Cumberland scored eight consecutive points at the beginning of a 20-7 run that propelled the Bulldogs to a 52-45 advantage with 2:20 left to play. Cumberland reserve guard Trey Caruthers scored 11 of his game-high 20 points during the decisive run. Cumberland enjoyed a huge 24-7 free throw advantage and attempted 33 while MCU tried just 10. Mid-Continent had already clinched the number seven seed and now plays a Thursday, March 3 quarterfinal against Union University (24-5, 15-2 TSAC), the number two seed, in Jackson, Tenn., in next week’s TranSouth Men’s Basketball Championships.
