LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Solid ground isn't always a certainty. Sinkholes can lurk anywhere, beneath suburban homes, city streets or even football stadiums and museums. It's basic geology: sinkholes strike when soil collapses into large holes, caused by flowing water in underground limestone.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Investigators in Oregon are looking for two Kentucky men who appear to have come to camp in the woods but didn't hit the trail. Police say 59-year-old John Kevin Wood and his 32-year-old son, Jason Wood of Bardstown haven't been in touch with family or neighbors since mid-August.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A Kentuky sheriff says a teenager was killed while trying to protect his mother from her estranged boyfriend, and the woman was abducted and later found dead in Ohio. Graves County Sheriff Dewayne Redmon says 41-year-old Terry Froman of Brookport, Illinois, was arrested after Ohio authorities stopped his vehicle and found the woman dead inside.

SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) - Police in Chile have arrested a suspect in the killing of a U.S. citizen in the South American country. The body of 22-year-old Erica Faith Hagan of Murray, Kentucky was found in the bathroom of her apartment in the southern city of Temuco on Sept. 6.
