MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY -
The Kentucky Derby is only five days away, and one local high school will be taking part in some of the festivities in Louisville, Kentucky.
The McCracken County High School Band is fine tuning their routine for the 59th Annual Pegasus Parade. The event on Thursday is one of the highlights of Derby Week.
The Mustangs are one of eleven bands selected nationwide to March in the parade. They will be joined by floats and horses on the 17 blocks of Broadway Street.
"Once they look back and see what they did and the fact that there will be thousands of people watching them and they're playing music that's written specific for this parade, I think they'll feel great about it," said Steven Paige, the school's band director.
"It sounds so much better than it did last week, because last week we read it, and this week we practiced it. And I'm thankful for that," said Junior Drum Major Leah Beach.
The band will leave for Louisville on Wednesday. You can catch your 140th Kentucky Derby coverage starting at 3:00 pm on Local 6.
