Dogs de-stress SIU Dawgs during finals
Thursday, May 1, 2014 7:39 PM EDT
CARBONDALE, IL -
Students may be stressed out over finals week but visits from their four legged friends have many of them wagging their tail.
Supporting Independence through Teamwork Service Dogs, or SIT, is turning the front lawn of the Morris Library into a sanctuary of sorts for stressed out students.
Each Labrador is a trained therapy dog meant to help Saluki students unwind and take their mind off of the busy week ahead.
Freshman Jill Zyer says she considered dropping out of school multiple times over the course of the week, but the pups helped her clear her mind.
"It makes me feel a lot more calm because they're so fun, so jumpy, and so cute that you just can't help but laugh and laughing is a really good stress reliever," said SIU freshman Jill Zyer.
Saluki students can enjoy another 'Dogs for De-stressing" event on Saturday from 10 A.M. to 12 P.M. right out front of the Morris Library.
