DUI charge: man hit by police cruiser

PADUCAH, Ky - A man has been charged with a DUI after being hit by a Paducah Police cruiser while on his bicycle.

54 year-old Terry L. Stokes was riding his bicycle Sunday night on Clay Street. The bicycle was improperly lit for night-riding.

As Stokes was reaching Joe Clifton Drive, a Paducah Police officer's cruiser hit the front wheel of the bicycle.

The collision was called in; several officers responded to the call.

Stokes told officers he did not remember what happened, but that he had had at least six 12-ounce beers, and was riding his bicycle home.

He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The Paducah Police officer was not injured.

Stokes was cited on charges of operating a non-motorized vehicle under the influence of intoxicants and having no lights on his bicycle.

The collision is still under investigation, and the Kentucky State Police is also investigating.

The Police Department is prohibited from releasing the dash-cam video of the collision because it could be presented as evidence in the DUI case.
