Plane crashes during takeoff in Carlisle County

CARLISLE COUNTY, KY - A plane crashed while leaving a field runway strip on Sunday.

The Kentucky State Police responded to a call of an aircraft collision located in a field behind 634 County Road in Bardwell, Kentucky. The plane, a 1965 Champion, model 7GCAA, single engine fixed wing, was piloted by 47 year-old Mark King, of Bardwell. A passenger, 20 year-old Johnathan Cain, of Paducah, was also on-board.

It was reported that the crash happened while the plane was attempting to take off. The landing gear was torn away and the plane overturned on it's top. The Kentucky State Police did not specify what caused the plane to crash.

Both King and Cain were taken to Lourdes Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The Kentucky State Police, Federal Aviation Administration, and National Transportation Safety Board will be continuing the investigation.
