Former financial officer pleads not guilty to abusing public trust

FULTON COUNTY, KY - A former Fulton County financial officer has pleaded not guilty to abusing public trust while in office.

Julie Vowell pleaded not guilty on Thursday morning on abuse of public trust charges. The Fulton County School District posted an audit from the time she served as its financial officer, which allegedly shows over $100,000 being misappropriated. She faces felony charges in connection with the missing money.

Superintendent Aaron Collins has said he wants parents to know the district isn't trying to hide the problem, and that they will fight to get the money back. Vowell has not worked for the district since October.

The Grand Jury placed a superceding indictment on Vowell as well, which means that she still has the same charge against her, but at a higher dollar amount. Her charge now carries a 10 to 20 year sentence.

Vowell is expected to return to court on June 26th.
