JPEC two-call scam

Posted: Updated:
A new telephone scam is circulating among Jackson Purchase Energy Members.

The Jackson Purchase Energy Cooperative (JPEC) is warning it members of a telephone scam where the caller says the power will be disconnected within the next four hours due to problems with the last three payments. The caller cites a problem with non-payment.

To avoid your power from being disconnected, the caller asks for $998.

About an hour later, a second caller says he will settle for $500, and asks them to go to CVS, purchase a 'green dot cash car' and call 1800-881-4237 with an access code so they can receive the cash payment.

Kelly Nuckols, President and CEO says, "we encourage our members to safeguard their personal information (Social Security numbers, banking information, birth dates, etc.) and never follow instructions like this from callers asking you to purchase cash cards for payments."

If you receive calls like this, contact JPEC immediately at
