Keeping the kids busy in the summer

Posted: Updated:
MARION, IL - The days get longer, the sun gets hotter and the kids get antsy.

Monday, this Memorial Day is the official start of summer.

You may already feel a mix of emotions, and some worry about keeping the offspring occupied.

So what can you do to keep the dreaded words- "I'm bored!" that could make any parent cringe at bay?

The Marion, Illinois Park District has a lot of things you can do with your kids for under $5.

Allison Davies, mom of two says, "you have to keep it exciting and you have to keep the anticipation there."

Why not teach the kids to play putt-putt at Goofy Golf?

If you have a quarter, you could get 5 balls at the batting cage.

Something that always makes a splash is of course the pool.

You could turn one activity into two with making your own chalk, and then sending your picasso out to the driveway. Where do you find these cheap and easy chalk recipes? Pinterest.

Of course don't forget monkeying around, playing in the sand, sliding down the slides, wiffle ball, soccer, any activity at Ray Fossee Park.

And a plea from a teacher, "keep your kids reading!"
