METROPOLIS, IL -
A Honeywell employee was fired after he accidentally brought a handgun into the building.
Spokesperson, Peter Dalpe of Honeywell Performance Materials and Technology says the gun was found Monday in the employee's bag when the employee was coming in to work.
The company has a zero-tolerance policy that prohibits firearms in the workplace, and he was immediately suspended, his access to the site revoked, and escorted from the site.
Honeywell then conducted an investigation and found that the employee had accidentally left the firearm in the bag, with no malicious intent or threat to the facility or its employees.
As per company policy, the employee was fired, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission was immediately notified of the incident.
