PADUCAH, Ky -
This year the, McCracken County Mustangs have had a team motto that puts an emphasis on team unity. It has been something that head coach Tony Hayden has preached to his team all season long.
"When you look at the teams I had at Reidland, everyone played a role to win," Hayden said. "That is what we are trying to get them to understand. It will take 18 to 21 kids to win."
Winning it all is what is expected from McCracken County, but everyone realizes anything could happen.
"We just have to play one game at a time," senior Jacqueline Roof said. "It doesn't matter if we are first or last, we just play our game and show people we are not here to goof around."
And as the number one team in the state, the bulls-eye is squarely on their backs.
"We don't overlook anyone," Hayden said. "It doesn't matter who they are, when you are the number one team everyone will play their best against you."
"Anyone can beat us at anytime," said senior Neely Quint. "We need to remember to be confident in our abilities and we have to play well in every game to do that."
Which is where the team motto comes into play.
"There are 21 girls that dress," said Quint. "And all 21 are great ball players and play as a team together. You have never seen a team in the first region with the talent that we have."
