JACKSON CO, IL - The man whose body was found in a burned car has been identified.

Corey Lee Warren, 26 of Marion, Illinois was found in the driver's seat of a burned car Tuesday, June 10. The car was found down an embankment off Cedar Creek Road in rural Makanda.

The fire had already burned out by the time authorities arrived on scene.

It's believed that the crash happened sometime overnight from June 9th to June 10th.

Authorities believe the 2012 Dodge minivan failed to negotiate a curve, left the road, and hit a tree, traveling down the embankment and catching fire.

The Jackson County Coroner performed the autopsy Wednesday, June 10 and identified Warren as the driver. Mr. Warren was an employee of the Southern Illinois University athletic department, and was driving a University owned vehicle at the time.

The exact cause of death is pending the final report from the forensic pathologist.
