CAIRO, IL -
Teams of volunteers spread out throughout Cairo on Saturday logging the various types of properties within the city as part of the Housing and Land Use Survey.
The day started with a training session led by Tyler Antrup from GCR, Inc., the consulting firm leading the Comprehensive Plan. From there, the teams went out into the community with iPads to log data.
"The survey helps collect data that we need to move the plan forward, and it's a great way for citizens to become involved in the plan and their community" said Dwight Norton, Cairo Comprehensive Plan Team Leader.
Data from the survey will be matched up to other data being collected by GCR, Inc., to make more targeted recommendations regarding future land use and development. The activity wrapped up three days of on-site work by GCR, Inc. and EdgeWise Consulting, which included participation and feedback by 80 citizens and regional partners over several sessions.
About the plan:
The study will focus on ways the city can create jobs, encourage development and increase the quality of life in the city. The project is being led by GCR Inc. from New Orleans, and edgewise Consulting, based in Springfield, Illinois.
