Local wounded warrior competes for gold

PADUCAH - A wounded warrior from Paducah took part in an athletic competition at West Point thanks to Fort Campbell's Adaptive Reconditioning Program.

Amanda Lyle, a former Tilghman High School student, suffered a traumatic brain injury and broken back after a crash. She says the injuries have given her some challenges, but she still partakes in a variety of sports.

At the U.S. Army Warrior Trials she is competing in sitting volleyball, cycling, shot put, and air rifle shooting.

Top athletes at the trials get to go to the Warrior Games in Colorado Springs.

"Honestly, it means a lot for me to be here, to be chosen to participate in the trials of the Army team for the Warrior Games. So whether I go or not, I feel blessed," said Lyle.

Amanda tells us her best event is cycling and she's won a silver medal already this week.
