Man arrested for attacking vending machine

BENTON, Mo. -

A Sikeston, Missouri man has been arrested after he attacked a vending machine with a knife in order to steal from it.

Thursday afternoon an employee from the Boomland in Benton called the Scott County Sheriff's Office to report that a man was upset with a vending machine and was stabbing it with a large knife.

Officers arrived on scene and took 44-year-old Roger Bannister into custody. Bannister had two knives and two handguns on him.

Another witness told the officers he saw Bannister beat the vending machine with a large knife until he was able to get his hand inside and remove money.

Bannister was charged with felony property damage and stealing. His bond was set at $5,000.
