Missouri ranked one of the worst states to be a working mother

Posted: Updated:

Missouri and 16 other states have gotten an "F" when it comes to providing support for new parents. That's according to the latest study by the National Partnership for Woman & Families.

The study focuses on the policies each state has to support new parents just before and after the arrival of a new child.

States who earned a "F" did little to nothing to expand upon federal requirements.

Missouri does allow state workers who have earned sick time to use it to care for a sick child, spouse, or family member.

As for the other states in the Local 6 area, Kentucky earned a "D-", Tennessee a "D+", and Illinois got a "B".

Illinois scored higher because it has enacted laws to protect pregnant women and nursing mothers in the workforce. State workers also get extended benefits.
