Group bikes across the country to raise Alzheimer's awareness

Posted: Updated:
PADUCAH - Taking part in something bigger than yourself. A group of nine fraternity brothers are biking across the country, all to bring attention to a disease that steals minds and lives.

The group of Western Kentucky University Phi Gamma Delta members biked into Paducah Wednesday. "Bike 4 Alz" is riding to raise awareness for Alzheimer's.

They've been on the road a long time, starting in San Diego back on May 24th.

Their cause is inspired by a fellow fraternity brother, whose grandfather passed away from the disease in 2010.

"He wanted to be able to have a ride to continue his grandfather's legacy, and be able to raise money and awareness along the way," Phi Gamma Delta member Wade Weatherholt told Local 6.

From Paducah, the group bikes to Hopkinsville, then across Kentucky, eventually arriving in Washington D.C. on July 18th.

All the money they raise will go to the BrightFocus Foundation, a non-profit supporting research to find a cure for eye and brain disease, including Alzheimer's.
