Local festival opening two beer gardens this year

PADUCAH -

A local festival will have not one, but two beer gardens this year.

On Wednesday, Family Services Society was chosen to run the original Barbecue on the River beer garden.

The Paducah Symphony Orchestra had managed the beer garden for 19 years but decided not to do it this year due to a dispute between the two organizations.

Family Services Society will sponsor the beer garden by the main stage, while a new beer garden will be set up at the site for the farmer's market.

Barbecue on the River board member Susie Coiner says the new addition will be smaller and serve craft-style beer.

It is sponsored by the Panathinaikos Soccer Schools.

The organization's president says the venue will help with scholarships for kids who struggle financially.

"If there is any way that you can get a child's education paid for and it's through sports, that's a benefit to us all," said David Hargrove.

This year's Barbecue on the River is scheduled to kick off September 25th.
