The portion of the bluff at Columbus-Belmont State park began to shift 10-15 years ago and caved yesterday, causing some portions of fence to fall over the bluff.
Cindy Lynch, park manager says the land slide comes as no surprise, saying they have been watching it for 10-15 years when there first appeared to be a dip in the bluff. They decided moved the fence back from the dip.
Three weeks ago, a crack got larger on the bluff by the dip and caused part of the land to fall off this past Monday, June 23.
Yesterday, Wednesday, June 25, more land continued to fall.
The park has requested the Corps of Engineers to look at the bluff and determine if it is stabilized, and if not what needs to be done.
