The family of a southern Illinois coal miner who died on the job earlier this year, held a benefit to help his newborn son.
Daniel Payne died in May at a mining facility near Thompsonville, Illinois in Franklin County.
His wife was 8 months pregnant at the time.
Payne never got to meet his son, so his family held a benefit on Saturday, July 12th, to help with his wife and son's finances.
The benefit was held at Lineman's Lounge in Johnston City, Illinois and included a silent auction and a gun raffle.
Payne's sister says the benefit was also a celebration of her brother's life.
"Daniel was just Daniel. He didn't try to impress everybody. He didn't care. He always wanted you to like him, but in the end, everybody did because he was just that loveable guy," said Samantha Payne.
You can help Daniel Payne's wife and son by donating to the Trent Payne Trust Fund at Southern Illinois Bank located at 1012 West Broadway Boulevard in Johnston City, Illinois.
