FRANKFORT, KY (AP) -
Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes says she raised more than $4 million during the last three months.
The Kentucky secretary of state now has more than $6.2 million in cash available to spend as she tries to unseat Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
The $4 million haul is significantly more than the
$2.7 million Grimes raised during the first three months of the year
. Her fundraisers included an event in Washington with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and an event in Kentucky with U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts.
In a news release, the Grimes campaign highlighted the more than 100,000 contributions of $50 or less they say is a result of the campaign's focus on middle class families.
McConnell raised slightly less money than Grimes did. According to his campaign, fundraisers brought in $3.1 million during the last three months.
While that is less than what Grimes brought in, his campaign as a whole has more money to spend. The Senator has $9.8 million in cash to spend on his campaign.
