Crews suspend search for woman who fell from train

METROPOLIS, IL - The Massac County Sheriff's Department tells Local 6 a woman who fell from a train in Massac County was found.

Sometime after the search was initiated, a 47-year-old woman was found almost two miles east of Metropolis.

She was taken by helicopter to a hospital in St. Louis where she was last reported in serious condition.

The Sheriff's Department says the woman and two of her male friends were illegally riding on a freight train when she fell off.



Since around 4:30 this morning, crews have stopped the search for a person who fell off a train.

There is no word as to whether they will resume the search.

According to both city and county police, state police are now handling the case.

A member of the Metropolis Fire Department says crews are looking for a person who fell off a train in Massac County.

The person fell off the train around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, and landed somewhere near the train tracks running through Metropolis, Illinois.

Crews have gathered at the Metropolis Community Center to organize the search effort.
