Calloway County man found in cornfield after crashing his truck

CALLOWAY COUNTY, Ky. -

Cell phone technology was used to find the driver of a truck that crashed Saturday evening.

The Calloway County Sheriff's Office says they got a call around 11:30 p.m. that a truck had crashed into a tree at the intersection of Gibbs Store Road and Wiswell Road.

When deputies got to the crash site, they found the truck was empty. After finding out that the truck belonged to 27-year-old Ryan Stanger of Murray, deputies called Stanger's family and the Murray Calloway County Emergency Room to see if he had been taken in for injuries.

When deputies learned that Stanger had not been taken into the emergency room for injuries, and that his family had not heard from him due to the accident, a search for Stanger began. Deputies were worried that Stanger was hurt but unable to call for help.

Using cell phone technology, deputies were able to ping Stanger's cell phone and get an approximate location.

Using that location, deputies, along with the Calloway County Fire & Rescue, Murray Police Department, and Murray Fire Department began searching for Stranger. He was found about a half hour later in a corn field near Wiswell Road.

Stranger was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident, and fleeing or evading police on foot. He was taken to the Calloway County Detention Center.
