134th Fancy Farm Picnic draws large crowd, cheers from supporters

At a picnic that is known for its one-liners, this year's gathering at Fancy Farm was full of them.

"What a huge crowd for Senator McConnell's retirement party," said challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes.

Kentucky Secretary of State and democratic Senate challenger Grimes mostly appealed to women voters.  She also took swipes at McConnell's 30 year senate tenure.

"When it comes to giving Kentuckians a fighting chance at actually surviving by increasing the minimum wage, Mitch McConnell doesn't care," she said.

Sen. McConnell came prepared too. "Barack Obama has been a disaster for our country," McConnell told the crowd.

The Senate minority leader said Grimes has too many similarities to President Obama and considers Grimes an ally and a vote for the president.

"He was only two years into his first job when he started campaigning for the next one. Sound familiar?" he asked the crowd.
