MARION, Ill. -

The Williamson County State's Attorney's Office confirms Brandon Zanotti has been sworn in as the new state's attorney.

Zanotti replaces longtime attorney Charles Garnati who resigned last week due to health concerns.

Williamson County State's Attorney Charles R. Garnati has announced his resignation after 29 years on the job.

Garnati submitted a resignation letter to Williamson County Chairman Ron Ellis, in which he said it has been a great pleasure to serve Williamson County, but the time has come to step down.

Garnati's resignation is effective Monday, September 8. In the letter, Garnati advises Ellis to hold a special meeting at that time to appoint a successor.
