FRANKFORT, Ky -

A Kentucky State Trooper from the Local 6 area is being honored for his work in helping to raise money for Trooper Island.

Trooper First Class Jay Thomas was presented with the 2014 Kentucky State Police Public Affairs Officer of the Year Award for his support of the camp.

Kentucky State Police say that during 2013, Thomas sold 2,189 ticket for the camp's fundraising raffle and raised $15,000 through a golf tournament.

The Murray resident also worked with a local Papa John's franchise and a local Lion's Club to benefit the camp.

Trooper Island is a free summer camp for underprivileged boys and girls. It is financed entirely by donations.
