Police: Drugs hidden in batteries

PADUCAH, Ky - Two people were arrested after a tip led Paducah Police Drug and Vice Enforcement officers to their home at mid-day Saturday.

Sgt. Steve Smith said investigators were following up on a tip that illegal drugs were being sold from the home, located in the 1200 block of North 12th Street.  When they arrived, they saw a man and a woman getting into a car parked in front of the home.  The officers asked for identification and the man provided a false name and social security number.  An officer identified the man as Christopher Ryan Miller.

Officer Nathan Antonites had his K9 search the vehicle, and the dog alerted to the presence of illegal drugs in the front seat area.  There, the officers found only a flashlight. Antonites searched the flashlight and discovered the batteries were fake.  They actually were containers with lids.  Inside one, Antonites found five small plastic bags containing methamphetamine and hydrocodone pills.

Miller and the woman, Meagan L. Wagoner, were arrested and booked into McCracken County Jail.  A search warrant was obtained for their home, and officers found additional items of drug paraphernalia, methamphetamine and marijuana inside.

Additional charges are pending.  Children in the home were released to family members.
