HERRIN, Ill. -

Herrin High School has won a $25,000 grant after participating in a teen driver safety awareness program sponsored by State Farm.

The announcement came as a surprise to students and faculty attending Herrin's football game over the weekend. HHS was one of 90 winning schools nationwide, out of 3,283 registered participants making online safe driving commitments.

"On behalf of State Farm, I am extremely proud of Herrin High School's efforts to generate excitement among students, faculty and the entire community to make safe driving commitments and have positive conversations about teen driver safety," said regional State Farm sales leader Kevin Martin, in a news release.

HHS must invest $2,500 of the grant on a driver safety program for students. According to the news release, the school plans on spending the rest on technology and curricular needs.
