The Sutton family left Monday from Colorado to see their family. Darrell Sutton said even though Tennessee is far they choose driving every time with their big family.
"Trying to fly this many people in an aircraft is kind of crazy," Sutton said.
He's not the only one choosing to take the wheel.Trip Advisor said driving for Thanksgiving is up this year at 60%, while flying went down to 35%. According to AAA, we're seeing the lowest Thanksgiving gas prices in five years.
Kentucky State Police is increasing its man power to prepare. Trooper Jay Thomas said it goes with their Finish Strong Campaign.
"Troopers are going to be conducting more road checks between now and the end of the year than maybe people have seen in the past," Thomas said.
Thomas is asking people to concentrate on driving and to try to keep out distractions from within the vehicle. He encourages drivers to obey the speed limit in hopes of reducing deaths on the roadway.
"This year if we can keep it under 600 it would be the lowest since 1948," Thomas said.
