Missouri Senators try to stall USPS consolidations
PADUCAH, Ky. -
The United States Postal Service will close 82 mail processing centers on January 5. That includes centers in Paducah and Cape Girardeau.
Missouri's U.S. Senators Roy Blunt and Claire McCaskill joined several others to demand a delay in the closings. The Senators say the Inspector General failed to study the impact of the consolidations and failed to inform the public of the consequences.
If the centers close, there will be no more local next-day delivery. Mail sent from one Paducah address to another Paducah address will travel 130 miles to Evansville, Indiana to be sorted and then brought back.
Workers at the Paducah center rallied last month against the closure.
