This holiday season, a new car can also mean better care for those in the final days of their lives.
At Hospice of Southern Illinois they have been providing loved ones with end of life care for more than 30 years.
"We don't turn anybody away regardless of their ability to pay,” said Jennifer Vineyard. “We don't receive any kind of outside funding, so that's why donations are so vital to our organization."
Since Hospice of Southern Illinois is non-profit they rely on donations for 100% of their funding. This 'Giving Tuesday' Subaru of Marion is donating $250 for every car they sell and lease, as a way to reflect on their loved ones.
“With what they do especially for the community, a lot of people don't actually think about them until they need them,” said James Shimkus. “Knowing several people that have actually used them I know they are a tremendous foundation."
The money will be used to help their patients and their family with medical supplies, counseling, and even bereavement.
"We are there for the family throughout the whole process of this,” said Vineyard. “It's a difficult time and we try to make it as easy as possible and keep their loved ones pain free."
