Christmas only comes once a year, so picking out and decorating the annual Christmas tree is a time for fun and quality bonding time. However, with all the different types of trees out there, it is hard to know which one is right for your holiday display.
Here are a few tips that will help you find the perfect Christmas tree this holiday season.
For more than three decades, Pat Lipford has been involved with the Knights of Columbus Christmas tree sale. If there is one thing he knows well it is Christmas trees.
"I enjoy selling the trees, we give candy canes to every child, we wish them a Merry Christmas, it lights up a smile on their face," said Lipford.
Lipford said there is a special Christmas tree for everyone.
"They're looking for a tree that is going to last until beyond the first of January. They are looking for a tree that can hold lots of their ornaments and meets their memories from when they were a child," said Lipford.
First, choose the height of your tree.
"We look for the height of a tree first to satisfy the house it's going in. A 12 foot tree in eight foot ceilings doesn't mix too well," said Lipford.
Then decide what kind of tree you prefer.
"The fir trees hold onto their needles very well, the scotch pines as a species of tree don't have a straight trunk as the fir trees. The balsam fir has a stronger aroma, a citrus smell," said Lipford.
Lipford has one last suggestion.
"Check the water everyday. The first two days the tree is going to drink more and then it'll steady out and add water as needed to keep the bottom of the trunk covered by two inches of water," said Lipford.
Making the holidays merrier for the entire family.
"Helping people select a tree, wishing them a Merry Christmas, there's fun that's priceless," said Lipford.
