Newly-elected governor makes choice for state Comptroller

Posted: Updated:
SPRINGFIELD, IL - Illinois governor-elect Bruce Rauner has announced who he will appoint to fill the vacancy in the Comptroller's office.

Leslie Munger will take over the office on January 12th. That is the same day Rauner takes over the governor's office.

Jerry Stermer is the current short-term replacement Comptroller for the state, replacing the late Judy Baar Topinka.

Topinka passed away in December from complications following a stroke.

Illinois lawmakers are expected to consider whether to mandate a 2016 special election to complete Topinka's term.

Munger ran for state representative for the 59th district in 2014 but lost to incumbent, Carol Sente.

She has a master's in business, and held director and management positions at Helene Curtis Industries and Proctor & Gamble.
