PULASKI Co, IL -

A body was pulled from a flooded field in Pulaski Count.

The Pulaski County Sheriff's Department says around 2:47 p.m. Monday they got a call of a car accident on Sandusky Road near the Pulaski/Alexander County line. A vehicle had fallen into a flooded ditch.

When the vehicle was pulled out of the water, it was discovered a second vehicle was submerged in the water. The second vehicle was almost completely submerged with only a small portion of the top visible. The sheriff's department says there is no connection between the two vehicles.

The Olmsted, Illinois fire and rescue squad was called to the scene and a boat was launched to search the vehicle. The vehicle was empty and crews began searching the flooded field.

Around 4:20 p.m., the body of Pam Miller was found approximately 100 feet from the submerged vehicle. An autopsy has been ordered.

The second vehicle was pulled from the water. Investigators found the key in the ignition. The ignition was in the "on" position and the vehicle was in drive.

A preliminary investigation found that Miller had borrowed the vehicle from a family member. It appears she was trying to drive across the flooded road and either lost control and slid into the flooded ditch, or attempted to turn around on the flooded road and slipped into the flooded ditch.

Miller was last seen with the vehicle Monday morning.

The road was closed at the time for flooding. The area frequently floods during periods of heavy rain. The sheriff's department says Miller either did not see the "road closed" sign or disregarded it.
