PADUCAH, Ky. -
The new year is ushering in new businesses and new job opportunities for people in our area. Paducah has big plans for historical downtown where old buildings continue being renovated and reopened. One restaurant's debut is just weeks away, and the sign in the window says help wanted.
There's a lot of organizing, sawing, and restructuring happening inside a building in downtown Paducah. "Our heart and feeling is really in the old, reclaimed barn wood and tin... and kind of just that comfortable, rustic feel," said Joan Manganero. She's part of a team that's turning a building that was sitting empty into The Italian Grill on Broadway. "We want to bring in fresh, and new, and different, and seasonal... and that's what we get to do here. So, we're really excited that that will fit every palette," Manganero said.
They're moving in on the street's 300 block, but Downtown Development Specialist Melinda Winchester said they won't be the only new neighbors in the area for long. "I see a lot of positive things happening and I think 2015 is going to be a great year," she said.
Though there still isn't a new tenant in the Whaler's Catch building, Winchester said the city's upper-story living initiative is taking off. They're getting plans for condo's, galleries, and more restaurants. "We want people to live down here and have all the amenities you need in a walkable area," she said.
The goal is to have blocks full of businesses that will also need employees. "We really want personalities... people who can come and help be a part of our team," Manganero said. They're bringing a family-friendly restaurant to the scene and adding about 25 new jobs to the local economy. Manganero said, "We can't wait to get open!"
The Italian Grill on Broadway is holding auditions at the restaurant for positions from pizza makers to managers on Monday, February second from 9-2 and 5-8. Their target for opening day is March first.
The Main Street program also helps promote the businesses downtown. There are a number of stores involved in a valentines day promotion. For every $10 dollars you spend, you get your name entered in a raffle to win a romantic prize package.
